Habitat - by GP

Transcript of Habitat

Narrated by G. P.

My favourite spots have to be quiet. So I can regroup myself. Umm regain my energy. Sometimes, just have a moment of peace. My main favourite spots are libraries, churches, and green spaces. But lately it’s almost like I’m losing my habitat. Because I can’t get a moment of silence.

People around me, sounds, traffic. It’s all overwhelming sometimes. In 2013 I adopted a cat, and it’s like meeting another version of me that he needs, he has the same needs as I do. But again, the world can be very overwhelming. In terms of sound. And I can’t, I can’t exactly take him anywhere. The thing that you would do, with a dog. So like I do, we both do what we can to have some peace and quiet. But again, it’s like I’m losing my habitat and my space every year.

Audio description transcript of Habitat

This is an introduction to G.P.’s film entitled “Habitat”. During the film, I offer brief descriptions of visuals not expressed by the film’s narrative. The film uses handheld video of the places, or habitats, G. P. dwells. The filmmaker narrates the film.

The title, Habitat, is written in white letters on a black background. Close up shots of multi-coloured goldfish swimming in a dark pond appear. This image fades into three small turtles with specs of red swimming in the same pond. Closed captions appear on the screen as the narrator speaks.

Brief descriptions of visuals that appear in the film:

Walking through the stacks in a library.

Looking up at the ornate ceiling of a church, with arches and stained glass windows.

A slightly blurred view of tropical foliage and a small sculpture in a garden.

A stone bowl with two tiny bonsai trees, moss and flowers.

A path in a tropical garden comes into focus. Bright red leaves punctuate the green.

A white hand squeezes a stress toy shaped like a green brain, hard, over and over,

Home video of black cat with yellow eyes playing with a toy.

Buildings in a city. Camera pans up from a red brick building to the top of the church steeple behind.

Fade to black. Text reads thank you. G.P.A.
